Online Ping Check
Send 4 pings to a host and see latency and TTL.
About the Ping Check tool
Ping sends ICMP echo requests to a host and measures how long each reply takes. It is the quickest way to tell whether a host is reachable and how much latency sits between our server and it.
We send four packets and report each reply with the responding IP address, bytes received, round-trip time and TTL (time to live). The TTL hints at how many routers the reply crossed.
Many firewalls drop ICMP. When that happens, or when ICMP isn't available from our hosting platform, the tool measures TCP handshake time to port 443 or 80 instead, so you still learn whether the host is up. Byte counts and TTL aren't available for TCP measurements.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ping time out when the website works?
The server or its firewall is configured to ignore ICMP echo requests. The TCP fallback shows whether the web service itself responds.
What is a good ping time?
Under 50 ms is excellent, 50โ150 ms is typical across a continent, and transoceanic paths often exceed 150 ms.
Where are the pings sent from?
From our servers in Microsoft Azure's East US 2 region, not from your computer.
